Fellowship Awards

1.
There will be up to 20 fellowships worth US$500 & complimentary registration.
2.
The fellowship will be awarded to young or non-established investigators. In general, all applicants should be less than 40 years of age unless extenuating circumstances are claimed.
3.
No more than 4 fellowships will be awarded to any one country.
4.
Fellowships awarded to local residents of Singapore will consist of a complimentary registration with a reduced award of US$100. (Please refer to Point 1 above for entitlements of complimentary registration)
5.
All applicants for a fellowship must submit an abstract to be presented at the Congress. They must indicate that they wish to be considered for a fellowship and whether they prefer an oral or poster presentation.
6.
The best 6 applicants for the fellowship who wish to make an oral presentation will compete in an oral communication session for the Young Investigators Prize.
7.
The abstracts of applicants for fellowships will be reviewed by a 5-member panel; consisting of 3 members from the local organizing committee and 2 people from other countries. In the first instance it is suggested that the 2 external reviewers are Prof Trefor Morgan, (Convenor of Committee) and Prof Ramon Abarquez from the Phillipines. The Convenor will enquire of the countries from which applications have been received whether there are any special reasons that any specific application should be strongly considered.
8.
A judging panel needs to be established to judge the best oral communication. For the meeting in Singapore I suggest Dr Lip Ping Low (Convenor), Prof Colin Johnston, Prof Hanafiah and Prof Supachai Chaithiraphan. The oral communication session should be on the first day. Ideally it should be a stand alone sessions associated immediately after the plenary lecture, ie. A 2 hour session. The award should be presented at the start of the plenary lecture on the following day.
9.
If a poster prize is to be awarded a judging committee will need to be established.
